I have attached (permanently) a short, heavy duty lead, that is about 10 inches long, to the positive terminal. Of course, it has a substantial insulator on the end tip! OK,-- whenever I need to charge the battery or even a jump start I take the insulator off of this lead an attach the positive, to this lead. The attachment must be insulated from touching any part of the cycle with a wrap of electrical tape.
The "negative" connection is clamped to the cycle, such as on the metal part of the foot peg. That is all that is needed in the way of an electrical connection.
By the way one of my cycles is in the garage, with a battery tender plugged into an electrical cord.
The other is outside undercover, but has a battery tender (purchased from Harbor Freight) that is solar powered!!
